François Vacarisas
François Vacarisas is a writer-director. Originally from Paris, he has lived in Brussels for nearly ten years. He works on the margins, precariousness and social violence, through stories that border on genre films. This is particularly true of his short film “Bluestar”, which was well received at a number of festivals. The same is true of his first feature-length project, “Life is Good”, which has only just begun to be written and is supported by Groupe Ouest.
Life is Good
Sélection Annuelle 2024
Omar is in his thirties. He’s a poor worker. He works as a temp, but has to live out of his car. Extremely lacking in social skills, he moves through life like a shadow. His new temp job leads him to become a gravedigger. He meets Steve, his boss, a man of dubious morals who deals in jewelry and gold teeth taken from corpses during exhumations. Steve offers to rent him the little house in the cemetery. It’s in this house that Omar meets the ghost of Mona, the murdered woman condemned to relive the last hours of her life, including her death, every night. And so begins Omar’s otherworldly roommate relationship with Mona. As they get to know each other, Omar sets out to solve the enigma of Mona’s life and death. He sets out to find her killer and free her from her curse. But Steve doesn’t take kindly to his new colleague’s plan.
