Jean-Claude Rozec

While studying modern literature, Jean-Claude Rozec was introduced to various animation techniques through workshops and training courses. He made his first self-produced films (“Chevaliers”, with Julien Leconte, then “The Perfect Weapon”), before working as storyboarder and animator on a number of series.

Between 2009 and 2020, he penned four short films: “Monstre Sacré”, “Cul de Bouteille”, “La Maison de Poussière” and “Têtard” (developed as part of Groupe Ouest Développement’s workshop Scénario : puissance & âme), all of which won awards at numerous international festivals.

Têtard

Groupe Ouest Développement 2016

“I was very young, but I remember it well. Mom and Dad didn’t get it, but I knew right away. The thing in the cradle wasn’t my little brother. No. It was you. You already had that weird face. And you stank, didn’t you, Tadpole?”

Le Géant dans l’Oursin

Annual Selection 2020

Brittany 1793. Civil war divides the region, pitting royalists against republicans. Judicaël, a shy and cowardly clerk, is asked to evaluate the Count de Loriva’s fortune, a nobleman suspected of treason. Among the precious objects, he discovers a curious relic, the fossil of a sea urchin said to contain the soul of a sleeping giant. Deeply rational and following the precepts of his mentor Capellan, a fanatical general serving the Revolution, Judicaël initially brushes aside these old superstitions. But some strongly believe in the legend of the giant, starting with the Count’s daughter, Pélagie. Having taken the lead of the rebels and convinced that she can awaken the monster herself, she wants to get hold of the sea urchin. As Judicaël attempts to stop Pelagie, his certainties gradually waver. What if the legend is true? Particularly as supernatural creatures also want to get their hands on the magical fossil…
