Sélection Annuelle 2024

In the Corsican mountains of the 19th century, Esther and Horace, a shepherd couple, face the tragic and brutal loss of their infant son. Horace participates alone in his community’s funeral ritual: tying the body of the deceased to a wild horse and letting the animal decide where it will be buried. As the shepherds descend from the mountain with their flocks, Esther, weakened and tormented, flees into the night to find the grave. Horace sets off in search of her, accompanied by the horse, and finds her in the forest, breathing her last. Now alone, Horace once again relies on the animal to perform the ritual, which takes a strange turn. With Esther’s body on its back, the horse never seems to stop.
