Annual Selection 2013
On December 16, 1925, in the Hell’s Kitchen district of New York, Battling Siki was shot dead in the back. Three years earlier, he had become the first black African world boxing champion after a historic fight against the French idol, Georges Carpentier. Starting with his last night in New York, his last fight, the film retraces the rebellious itinerary of a young boy from Saint-Louis in Senegal who, throughout his whole life, had fought against the discrimination to which he was constantly exposed.
