Marina Ziolkowski

Daughter and grand-daughter of American screenwriters, Marina Ziolkowski learned to tell stories at a very young age. She studied theatre and directed experimental videos. A French-American, Marina shot her first short film, But You Look So Good, in Los Angeles, which won several awards. Upon returning to France, she directed 19, which was nominated for the César Award for Best Short Film in 2021. In 2022, her third short film, Extra Large, a wild fairy tale, was released with the support of Canal+.

Marina tackles difficult subjects through strong female characters, always with a touch of humour. She joined Groupe Ouest in 2021 to work on writing her first feature film.

A travaillé avec...

The writing process is quite solitary, you're in a bubble... and all of a sudden, you're putting your project to the test through a lot of different eyes. Sometimes there's overlapping feedback. Sometimes it's contrary feedback. Sometimes it goes in directions you didn't expect at all. So it can be quite destabilizing. I think you have to be very open-minded and take it all in without feeling overwhelmed. And then, manage to take all this positive, super energy, and at the same time take time to decant this feedback, sort out the ideas and refocus on what you want to tell.
