La Perle des fumerolles
Sélection Annuelle 2023
It’s the end of the world.
Everything will be destroyed tonight. In the deepest depths of the ocean, an ancient magical pearl has been collecting the memory of all living beings since the dawn of time. It sends its servant, a gruff old sea captain, to capture a human to add to its collection. As the cataclysm unfolds on the surface, the captain manages to seize Souad, a dreamy young oceanographer. Mona, Souad’s clingy and persistent friend, witnesses the abduction and embarks on a relentless chase to rescue her. She descends to the pearl’s lair, determined to save Souad—against the old captain, against the pearl, against herself, against everything. In the end, Mona destroys the sanctuary that holds the memory of life and escapes back to the surface with Souad. But to return to what? The world is dead. Souad is now bound to the abyss, and in the depths, a dark force awakens from the ruins of the pearl’s lair. Only by confronting it can something be reborn—and Mona must lead Souad into the darkness to find out what remains.
