Yann Le Quellec

Yann Le Quellec began his career in film production, creating and managing Sofica Cinémage (involved in the production of over 300 feature films) and the companies White Light Films / Les Films de mon moulin.

In 2012, he wrote and directed Je sens le beat qui monte en moi (Audience Award at the Brive Festival, Audience Award and International Press Award at the Unifrance French Film Festival and the Lutins du court-métrage, Grand Prize at the Vendôme Festival, and winner of numerous international festivals). In 2013, he made Le Quepa sur la vilni ! (Jean Vigo Prize, Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes, Clermont-Ferrand Festival, etc.). These two medium-length films were released in theatres and on DVD nationwide in 2014.

Freely inspired by Finnish writer Arto Paasilinna’s novel, Yann made his first feature Cornelius, le meunier hurlant. Selected at numerous festivals (Audience Award at the Belfort Festival, Premiers Plans Festival in Angers, etc.), it was released in theaters on May 2, 2018.

Yann Le Quellec is also a comic book author published by Editions Delcourt: Love is in the air (guitare), translated into multiple languages, and Le Royaume d’Hérouville.

Señor Coconut

Annual Selection 2018

The life of a property manager is not always easy. For Albert Manchot, it is a constant struggle: despite his efforts to resolve co-ownership issues, General Assemblies become chaotic battles, from which he always leaves humiliated. Worried about employee morale, his boss arranges a boat & road trip to the San Sombrero Archipelago to lift their spirits. Once there, Albert Manchot misses the group excursion departure and and can only rejoin his colleagues the next day. In the meantime, on the island, he discovers a paradise beach. When asked by a local to introduce himself, Albert unexpectedly replies, “I am Señor Coconut,” borrowing the name of the hero from his childhood book. From then on, Albert gradually fades away, allowing Señor Coconut to emerge. Señor Coconut claims ownership of the beach, builds his own “palace” and gathers a community of happy, kind-hearted people around him. However, changing identities is no easy feat, and when Señor Coconut is named leader of a rebellion against a golf course construction project, he quickly realizes the challenges that come with his new role.
