Intentions
As a director, artist, and woman I feel obligated to tell stories where broken people and their relationships have a chance for change. SOPHIA’S WORLD is a story of a struggle with co-dependency. Sophia doesn’t have a weak character, rather a broken spirit as she still is an adult child, never able to really grow up and let go. Co-dependents, according to mental health experts, are many times less likely to seek help than addicts. Hence, as women become more and more empowered, I see the necessity for us to talk more honestly and clearly what co-dependency actually is. Otherwise, we are leaving strong and capable people feeling guilty, full of shame, and alone. For Sophia, or anybody – person or nation – to heal, she needs to stop denying her problem and finally be honest with herself. The challenge is, nobody really understands the price we need to pay for self-honesty.
