Jean-François Laguionie
Since the early 1990s, Brittany, and particularly the Rennes region, has made a name for itself in the world of animation, both in short films and for television. In 2016, a feature film for the cinema, entirely conceived in Brittany (and 80% made here), will confirm this direction. It is the new opus of a master of French animation, Jean-François Laguionie, a peer of Paul Grimault, who has already won a Palme d’or and a César for a short film and made a name for himself with bold and poetic feature films such as “The Castle of the Monkeys” (19″Louise en hiver”, his new project, is produced by JPL Films, in Rennes, which obtained the funding from the Breizh Film Fund and the Brittany Region for the film’s production, before being bought by Arte and Canal +. Jean-François Laguionie tells the story of an old woman, interpreted by Dominique Frot, who is forced to spend the winter at a deserted seaside resort, with only her memories, dreams and a stray dog for company… The film was made in 2015 in 2D animated painting, mainly in the JPL Films studios in Rennes and Tréguier, Laguionie’s home town.
Synposis
At the end of summer, an old lady watches as the last train of the season leaves the small seaside station of Biligen without her. The town is deserted. The weather rapidly deteriorates and the arrival of high tides cuts electricity and all means of communication. Fragile and neat, not half as tough as Robinson, Louise may not survive winter.
