Nous, Tikopia

Corto Fajal

Arwestud Films (Rennes) received support from the Breizh Film Fund for the production of the feature documentary “Nous, Tikopia” by Corto Fajal, released in 2018.

Synposis

On the island of Tikopia, the young king Ti Namo is faced with the difficult task of preserving the living conditions of his people to hand down to future generations. Descening from a 3,000-year-old civilisation, he and his people are now faced with challenges threatening their ancient connexion with their island. To meet this challenge, Ti Namo draws on an ancestral custom using the island as their main ally. Using organic sounds and music, the film reflects our world perfectly and shows the alternatives which will determine the survival or not of their civilisation. It is a small piece of the history of humanity seen under a magnifying glass which is told on this island.

Intentions

It seems to me that these peoples, in many ways, are like pathfinders who light the way for our modern societies to draw inspiration from in order to return to a more humble and less arrogant vision of man as an element of territory’s biodiversity.

We are suffering from serious environmental, social, economic and demographic imbalances, which our dominant model often forces us to see from a planetary and global perspective, making the individual feels powerless to change the course of things or even to contribute to it.
