Hyun Lories
Hyun Lories est un cinéaste d’origine sud-coréenne, vivant à Bruxelles. Il a obtenu son master au RITCS : le Royal Institute for Theatre Cinema and Sound.
On retrouve souvent dans ses films l’influence de sa ville et de son passé d’animateur socioculturel. Bien qu’il ait commencé ses études dans l’optique de devenir documentariste, il s’est ensuite tourné vers l’écriture et la réalisation de films de fiction.
Son projet de fin d’études, VERSAILLES, a été diffusé pour la première fois en 2020 au Festival du film de Gand, où il a remporté le prix du public d’ACE Image Factory & The Fridge. Ce court-métrage a également reçu le prix Wildcard du meilleur court-métrage du VAF (Fonds audiovisuel de Flandre) au Festival international du court-métrage de Louvain et a fait son avant-première internationale au Festival du court-métrage de Palms Springs de 2021. Toujours avec VERSAILLES, Hyun Lories a participé au programme Future Frames de l’EFP au cours de la 55e édition du Festival de Karlovy Vary.
Son précédent court-métrage, DERRIÈRE LES MURS, dont la première a eu lieu au Festival international du film étudiant de Sehsüchte, a été projeté dans plusieurs évènements comme le festival « Encounters » en 2017. DERRIÈRE LES MURS a aussi remporté le prix du public de la compétition Next Generation au Festival du court-métrage de Bruxelles de 2016.
En plus des court-métrages, Hyun a travaillé sur des clips musicaux et des films de marque.

Once Marie is cured from cancer, eva and Marie, two adoptee sisters, decide to finally go back to their birth country, South-Korea. Preparing the trip they’ve always dreamt of, they take Korean language classes, explore Korean pop culture and meet up with fellow adoptees. Delving into their adoption past they can rely on each other while exploring new terrain.
But things change when eva receives an email regarding her birth family, while Marie remains in the dark. After changing her name back to Soo-Jin, it doesn’t feel as good as she was hoping. She starts feeling increasingly estranged from everybody and everything related to her roots. eva thinks going back to South-Korea is not what she needs. She tells Marie that she won’t go anymore and for the first time in their lives, their unbreakable sister bond seems jeopardized.
In an attempt to reconnect, they discover that they were both imagining a different trip and that they look at their adoption in a totally different way.
